that wont work without THEFT of intellectual property
Linux looks very interesting, even if some of the screen colours and menu options appear to be a little out of the ordinary. But you are missing a vital point, a point which takes some experience and depth of knowledge in the field of computers. You see, when a computer boots up, it needs to load various drivers and then load various services. This happens long before the operating system and other applications are available.
Linux is a marvellous operating system in its own right, and even comes in several different flavours. However, as good as these flavours are, they first need Microsoft Windows to load the services prior to use.
In Linux, the open office might be the default for editing your wordfiles, and you might prefer ubuntu brown over the grassy knoll of the windows desktop, but mark my words young man - without the windows drivers sitting below the visible surface, allowing the linus to talk to the hardware, it is without worth.
And so, by choosing your linux as an alternative to windows on the desktop, you still need a windows licence to run this operating system through the windows drivers to talk to the hardware. Linux is only a code, it cannot perform the low level function.
My point being, young man, that unless you intend to pirate and steal the Windows drivers and services, how is using the linux going to save money ? Well ? It seems that no linux fan can ever provide a straight answer to that question !
May as well just stay legal, run the Windows drivers, and run Office on the desktop instead of the linus. From:http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-12355-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=31199&messageID=579066&start=-9577

I am at a loss for words… the only word that comes to mind is “dumbass”.
His brain has completly mended BIOS, DRIVER, OS and Office Suites into one glorious word “WINDOWS”.
It would take fifteen minutes of reasearch for him to actually learn this properly. Hell, just check Wikipedia if you want to be lazy.
Please, for the love of God don’t let this idiot edit Wikipedia!!!

here ya go Jerry Lee Cooper, this will make it easy to install Linux on your fine windows system…

Jerry,
Kindly, show me one person, just one person who is solely responsible for the shaping of their own intellect? Such a person would have to be born on a deserted island, abandoned at birth by both parents AND also blind and deaf so that their intellect was not influenced by the animals found on the island.
Should you produce such a remarkable creature, I’ll happily proclaim the primordial grunts that come out of its mouth as being its sole “intellectual property”.

To Mr RipVanWinkle whoever you think you are. Thank you very much for sending me a virus via your link. My Windows is now calling itself ‘Debian’ and my defragger and antispywares have stopped working. I am now in the usr/bin hive of my windows regestry manually deleting all of your viruses and trojans. Thank you very much indeed. I intend to report you to the internets.

The first thing I would like to point out is that Linux is based on Minix, a version of Unix. The Linux kernel loads things as the Windows kernel would, but is not the same, or even based upon, Windows technology. For you to spout this ignorant drivel shows that you need to go back to school, or maybe just look at the way things are done in each of these operating systems. From where I stand it looks as though you have never installed or used any distribution of Linux.

Everybody knows that Linux Torvalds stole the windows core when he worked at Microsoft!!
January 24th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Karl, Linux is *not* based on Minix, it’s an entirely independent reimplementation. It’s ‘based on’ Minix in the same way that GCC is ‘based on’ the old SunOS C compilers: that’s what was used for bootstrapping. That’s all.
(And I’m fairly sure the guy behind this site has used Linux for a good long while: there’s no way he could get this many things creatively wrong otherwise. It’s a work of genius.)

OMG! The owner of this site can be that idiot… It’s impossible… No one is so stupid! Otherwise, I guess we found the “missing link”…
This guy is either trying to be funny and make some jokes with this blog or is a M$ troll trying to spread some FUD, since people who dont understand shit would possibly take it serious!

You’re a fucking moron, “Jerr”. It should be criminal that you are allowed to deplete the supply of oxygen in the air by breathing! You are the archetype of the Windows-fed neophyte speaking without portfolio on Linux. Good hell, man — don’t you hear how utterly stupid you sound? Do us all a favor and proofread your next post. This would surely result in the deletion of the myriad errors and misrepresentations in your writing and leave you saying only what you are qualified to — nothing!

Nix, what you say about Minix is true as it stands but a little historical background is in order. Minix is, in fact the combination of the best of two earlier operating systems, C\PM and Fortran.
The design philosophy was to combine all the disparate scattered files that were scattered in an ad-hoc fashion in earlier OS’s and combine them into one kernel. This would facilitate ease of shipping.
The origin of the name was a combination of the mascots symbloising the respective OS’s, Minnie Mouse for CP\M and Asterix for Fortran. Hence Mi-Nix.
The iconic image that emerged became the inspiration for Marvin the Angry Alien and indeed he has much to be angry about seeing as how the ‘Linux’ is such a blatant rip off of Minix and Windows. Ever notice that the ‘Linux’ mascot is a peng-Win. A barely concealed reference to said origin.
